Foxhunting in South & West Wiltshire JRI Platt 1st Edition Signed
Three Hundred Years of Foxhunting in South And West Wiltshire by Brigadier JRI Platt with a Foreword by Lord Margadale.
About the Book: First edition signed copy by author and Master Simon Clarke.
“This book is a delight. It is full of anecdotes and descriptions of hunts and those who have hunted over South and West Wiltshire for three centuries. The South and West Wilts Hunt has been famous for its Hounds and Huntsmen, while not a few of its Masters have been household names amongst hunting folk the world over. The author knows the country and the people as well as anybody. He has complied a book that will amuse and entertain an audience far wider than those who hunt with the South and West Wilts; and he has illustrated it with photographs of some of the leading personalities who have played a part in the last hundred and fifty years of hunting the country.” Front cover Mr John Morrison with hounds on Cowridge (Lionel Edwards 1937)

“John Platt served with the Somerset Light Infantry in which his father and grandfather had served before him. AS a child he visited Malta, North Cina and India with the Regiment before going to preparatory school at the age of nine. Joining the Regiment from Sandhurst in 1925 , he saw service in Egypt, Hong Kong and India where he hunted with eh Ootacamund Hounds, whipped-in to the Poona and Kirkee Hounds and the Quette Hounds which he also hunted. During brief spells in England he hunted with e Cotswold, Dartmoor, Sliverton and Morpeth Hounds. He came to the School of Infantry in 1948 and except for two years in Devon, has remained in Wiltshire ever since, hunting util 1975 with the Wylye Valley and South and West Wilts Hounds. On retiring from the Army in 1952 he became, for sixteen years, Secretary of Wiltshire Territorial and Auxiliary Forces Association which led him to write a history of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry 1907 – 1967 published in 1972.”
