L. Luard The Yachtman's Modern Navigation and Practical Pilotage
L Luard The Yachtsman’s Modern Navigation and Practical Pilotage
About the Book: First Edition - a good copy and a RARE find includes in the pocket at the end of the book the rare CHARTS SIGN & SYMBOLS sheet.
“Coastal navigation, contrary to the belief of many is not a complicated art, for once a few basic rules have been grasped and thoroughly mastered, proficiency comes with practice. Unfortunately most text books are unsuitable for the ordinary yachtsman, the subject matter being treated in complicated detail, and the methods of fixing a ship’s position often proving of little use to the small boat navigator, who, working in restricted space and often in severe discomfort, require not absolute precision obtained by intricate calculations and instruments, but moderate accuracy arrived at simply and swiftly.
This small book-based on practical experience- is an attempt to reduce coastal navigation, or pilotage, to its simplest possible form. It if prevents the beginner from losing himself in a labyrinth of theory, and encourages him to make a progressive study of more advanced books, then it will have served its purpose.”
