The Rustic Scribe RWF Poole

About the Book:  First edition signed copy by author “Willy Poole”

Front cover is a photograph of the author by Ted Ditchburn. This latest collection of articles appeared in the Daily Telegraph over the last three years 1988-1991 and might almost have been entitles “A Backwoodsman at Large”. It is a repertoire which throws an amusing light on the British way of life sand in which foxes, hounds, sheep and whisky. not necessarily in that order, feature prominently. Accounts of hunting wild boar in France and coyotes in America and an eventful attachment to the Territorial Arm are thrown in for good measure. RWF Poole’s experiences, both thought provoking and hilarious, never leave him short of ammunition.

The Dail Telegraph for which he has written since 1987 changed RWF Poole’s life. For a quarter of a century, he had hardly set foot outside Britain. He reluctantly went to London once a year for the AGM of the Masters of Foxhounds Association and suffered from claustrophobia if he went shopping in Wooler, his local market town. Now he jets about the world, regards the Savoy Hotel as his second home and is becoming accustomed to people whom he meets says “Hang about, you’re him, aren’t you? You know wossisname I read you in the paper.”

This book is a delight. “Willy Poole is not simply a front runner among amusing scribes on country matters, he leaves all the others many lengths behind. “– Country Life.

Back Story and Biography.

“The Dail Telegraph for which Willy Poole has written since 1987 changed RWF Poole’s life. You know wossisname I read you in the paper.” He enjoys all this but he is still heartily glad that he can work in his quiet office with its superb view of the cheviots. He likes working with the sheep on his little farm. He enjoys being out on the wild winter hills watching, and listening to, the hounds he loves. He is happiest at home with his family, dogs, books and his pipe. The Rustic Scribe is still a Backwoodsman, as this book will show.”
