Rarer out of print book containing a series of astute commentaries given by Bryn Roberts General Secretary to The National Union of Public Employees. The articles and lectures first appearing in various journals such as Fabian Journal, N.U.P.E. Journal, Ashridge College and Yorkshire Area Conference.  Aimed at raising the Unions profile, give insight into some of its main important policies as well as to educate and inform members and attract new ones. Written in 1950s when union membership had risen to 180,000 from 13,000 in 1933. Insightful articles into the policies of the union and general comments on some of the key personalities of the era. An important book in the history of public trade unions in which Bryn Roberts is seen as the founding father for today’s modern UNISON.

Biography of Author:
Bryn Roberts (7 April 1897 – 26 August 1964) was a Welsh trade union leader. He grew up in Abertillery, leaving school at the age of thirteen to work at a colliery. He joined the South Wales Miners' Federation (SWMF), and won a union scholarship to attend the Central Labour College in 1919. Two years later, he returned to Wales and was elected as checkweighman for Rhymney, then worked full-time for the union as its agent for Rhymney Valley and sat on its executive. He was also elected as a local councillor for the Labour Party.[1] In 1929 he finished second behind Aneurin Bevan in the contest to find a Labour candidate for the Ebbw Vale constituency.
In 1934, Roberts left the SWMF to become General Secretary of the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE). He represented the union at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and was the TUC's representative to the American Federation of Labour in 1942. In 1954, he was part of a joint trade union and Parliamentary delegation to China.

Dust Jacket: Fairly clean with almost perfect colouring. Repaired tear across front cover as per image. May have marks, creasing and other signs of wear. Most edges are rubbed or have small tears in them. DJ Spine bumping to each end. 
Boards: Green boards with bold white titles have signs of age-related wear and some bumping to outer edges.  
Binding: Tight. Gutter exposed on front second free end paper
Spine: Good clean.
Pages.  All pages complete. Pages are age-toned with foxing on page edges. Faint spotting to pages throughout. Pages are otherwise strong and bright. Doesn’t appear to be well-read. Overall bright and clean.
